The Vetterli was the first repeating rifle widely adopted for military service and was the first to feature a self-cocking action and a small caliber bore. It has a 11-round tubular magazine located under the barrel. Adopte by the Swiss military in 1869, with the M1871 eliminating the loading gate cover.
