Offered here is a classic Merkel Suhl side-by-side shotgun chambered in 12 Gauge, manufactured by Gebrüder Merkel in Suhl, East Germany (GDR). Merkel has long been regarded as one of Germany's premier sporting arms manufacturers, known for producing exceptionally well-built shotguns that combine traditional craftsmanship with outstanding durability.

This example features the classic double-trigger configuration with tasteful factory scroll engraving. The barrels are marked "Spezial Gewehrlaufstahl" (Special Gun Barrel Steel), reflecting Merkel's use of high-quality barrel steel during production. The right barrel is also marked "Made in GDR," indicating manufacture during the East German period.

German proof marks are present, including 12/70, confirming 2¾-inch chambers, along with the appropriate German nitro proof marks.

The walnut stock and forend retain attractive figure with sharp checkering, while the metal finish shows honest handling wear consistent with a well-maintained sporting shotgun.
