SKS, Type56 canvas chest ammo pouch

Original PLA Type 56 chest ammo rig. Heavy-duty canvas construction with wooden toggle closures. Designed for SKS or Type56 rifle ammo clip. Manufactured in 1967. New old stock(NOS), never used, with minor warehouse storage wear.    

These Type 56 chest rigs were supplied by China to North Vietnamese forces during the Vietnam War. Large numbers were captured by U.S. troops and often reused because of their simple and practical design. The last photo shows a U.S. soldier wearing a captured Type 56 chest rig configured to carry M16 magazines.
