You don't see something like this too often...this was a butcher's work/carry kit which dates to the late 1800s/very early 1900s. Very unique!
The carry box itself was made from a wood orange crate and it has a sliding lid. The box measures 13 1/2" long x 8" wide x 3 1/2" high. These boxes alone carry value and would sell in the $75.00 to $100.00 range.
The butcher's kit consists of seven (7) various knives, one (1) fork, one (1) small cleaver and one (1) whetstone.
Two of the knives are marked, one an I. Wilson Peppercorn & Diamond, the other is an E. Hartzell Cutlery Co. and I would date these to the late 1800s. Both of these knives are worth in the $125.00 to $200.00 range each.
Three of the knives have, what I would say, are copper bolsters and combined with their overall look, I would date these to the late 1800s as well.
The remaining would be, in my opinion, early 1900s.
The cleaver does have the head of one rivet broken off on one side of its handle (please refer to pictures).
The only work I have done on this set is clean up the wood box and wipe down the knife handles then applied a coat of boiled linseed oil to protect the wood.
I am only selling it as a set.
There is great value here!
Asking $395.00 for the set which includes tracked shipping within Canada via Canada Post.
Thanks
