ANTIQUE (no PAL) Great French MAS 1874 in .455 Webley/.45 Auto Rim Civilian Retail from Chamelot & Delvigne (not St. Etienne)

I am selling my unusual non-military French 1874 Officer's Model that shoots .455 Webley and .45 Auto Rim in single and double action (but NOT .45 acp because whoever milled this for .45 went all the way through and did not leave a step to catch the front of a rimless .45 acp case, allowing it to fall through unless you modify a moon clip to fit onto the cylinder by filing the inner opening to match around the cylinder rachet hex). Most of this model are Navy revolvers, but this is a rare non-Navy revolver, with private retailer marks and no evidence of service use. Although it was not seemingly made for a government contract, this revolver still could very likely have seen conflict as a personally owned sidearm on an Officer's hip (personal revolvers were generally acceptable as long as they could shoot the standard issue ammo). As a pre-1898 Antique, this can be owned and used without any licensing, registration, or hassle from Ottawa-based meddlers.

This gun has strong mechanics, with a reliable action, ejection, and cycling and less than 1mm of play at lockup. The rifling is great down the entire length of the barrel. The left side is stamped "CHAMELOT & DELVIGNE" and the serial 72xx appears in a few places including on the butt where an anchor Navy mark would often be on government revolvers.

The finish has taken some general wear and spottiness over the ages but there is no notable pitting or loss of metal. All writing is crisp showing matching serials, inspection marks, and a pre-1893 Liege proof on the cylinder front. The knurling is great and the checkered grips have a different pattern than the usual service revolvers with an elongated diamond type pattern. These grips are strong and appear almost to be ebony. Lanyard ring swivel has been removed, likely to prevent from being a nuisance or catching on things.
