Excellent Condition Antique Smith & Wesson No.3 New Model Single Action Revolver

This is an antique Smith & Wesson No.3 New Model single action revolver.  This is a 6 shot revolver with fluted cylinders and is chambered in .44 Russian. The cylinder measures 1-7/16” which was found on early models with later revolvers having a cylinder measuring 1-9/16”.The barrel is 6-1/2” long with a crisp barrel address. The bore is in fine condition with sharp rifling. This revolver retains around 95% original finish. The grips are in excellent condition with a few very light handling marks. Mechanically also in excellent condition with proper timing and solid lockup. 
Smith & Wesson produced 35796 No.3 New Model’s from 1878 to 1908 with  all frames being manufactured by 1898. Which means that nearly all except the very latest manufactured are considered antique. S&W No.3 was in direct competition with Colt’s iconic model 1873 and was superior in nearly every way. The No.3’s were far faster to reload and the .44 Russian round was one of the most accurate rounds of its era. It was the preferred revolver of sharpshooter Annie Oakley and lawman Virgil Earp. It’s also reported that when Robert Ford shot Jessie James in the back he did so with a Smith & Wesson No.3. This is a beautiful revolver that is in incredible condition, a collector could wait a lifetime without coming across one that is as gorgeous as this. This will definitely be the focal point of any serious collection.
