Austrian 1842 Henry Leman style converted Musket Circa 1798
Research shows the following. The gun origins date to the Austrian Model 1798 Flintlock. Conversion to percussion happened in around 1842 by Henry Leman in Lancaster Pennsylvania for the Union side troops only, although these guns were shipped to both Union and Confederate armies it was the third most common long arm in the American Civil War! This gun’s furniture including barrel bands are all made of “Brass”. Interesting feature on the stock which has a reverse check rest which means it was used in the northern climates to accommodate heavy parkas.
Bore measures .71-.72 cal.x 40.5 barrel were known as Engineer" or "Sapper" Models.
