Civil War Captured Calvary Saddle Carbine (OUT OF MY COLLECTION)
The Carbine was discovered in a trunk in Tennessee. Unfortunately no remaining family members are living to verify the history of the carbine or the trunk. The old house dates back to before the Civil War (1826). The trigger guard forward mounting has a sling mtg. added with a short rope & ring possibly for a saddle attachment? Also added is a “Brass” front sight
Our opinion is that it was a captured “Union Rifle” which was then altered to its present form by the Confederates Calvary. Just found too far south to be a Union Arm.
