Martini-Metford Artillery Carbine Mk. III .303 Brit

This Martini-Metford A.C. III is an uncommon example of the Martini-Henry Conversions. The shorter and lighter barrel sports an original Wilkinson P.1888 bayonet with a more contemporary bayonet lug that came before with the previous Martini-Henry models. Almost all stampings are very clear and tell a story of where it has been. The rifle was produced in 1880 in Enfield by R.S.A and converted to .303 British in 1895, saw service in the Royal Garrison Artillery (English coastal defence) from August of 1896 to some point in 1909; after which it was decommissioned and sold for civilian use.

The rifling remains after all these years through the cordite period (as shown in picture), and has been taken apart and fully cleaned. The barrel shows signs of pitting externally, however the bore remains light. I have personally shot it, and feel comfortable shooting it with how solid the action is. Everything on this rifle is solid and is a very interesting historical piece that you can shoot (with careful ammo consideration).

One of the more unusual elements of this particular rifle is the I.D. disk on the stock. This component after over 100 years often falls out on other Martini-Henry examples. I love this rifle dearly but unfortunately I have to start clearing out some assets from my vault.
