This is a wartime bnz 42 K98k Mauser chambered in 8×57 Mauser, produced in 1942.
The rifle presents very well overall, with excellent metal condition and a high degree of original-style wartime blued finish remaining. The finish wear, machining marks, and visible aging patterns appear natural and consistent throughout the rifle, with no obvious signs of later civilian refinishing. German wartime inspection and acceptance markings remain visible across multiple components.
The bore is one of the major highlights of this example. The rifling remains very sharp, strong, and well-defined, with a bright overall appearance. The rifle is non-matching, which has been noted for full transparency.
The stock retains attractive grain and honest service wear consistent with age. A few light hairline cracks are visible on the left side of the buttstock, likely age-related wood movement caused by long-term humidity and dryness changes. These cracks appear minor in nature and do not affect the structural stability, handling, or overall appearance of the rifle.
The rifle also retains its cleaning rod and front sight hood, both of which are commonly missing on many surviving K98k rifles today and add nicely to the rifle’s overall completeness and collector presentation.
Overall, this is a highly attractive wartime bnz 42 K98k with excellent bore condition, strong original character, and a very authentic military appearance.
