This is a Czech-manufactured VZ.24 Mauser bolt-action rifle chambered in 8×57 Mauser (8mm Mauser), produced by Československá Zbrojovka A.S. Brno, featuring the desirable original Czechoslovak lion crest on the receiver ring. The VZ.24 is widely regarded as one of the finest pre-war Mauser-pattern military rifles, known for its excellent machining quality, robust action, and smooth operation.
This example remains in its original full-length military configuration and retains a very strong overall appearance. The rifle is non-matching, which is common among military-used VZ.24 rifles that saw post-war arsenal service, but the overall finish and wear patterns remain highly consistent throughout the rifle.
The metal finish on this rifle is particularly attractive, showing a deep original-style blue tone with honest military wear. Unlike many heavily refinished examples on the market, this rifle still retains a very natural military appearance with sharp edges and strong machining details visible throughout.
The wood stock is in very nice condition overall, featuring attractive grain patterns and a stable structure. No visually apparent cracks were observed. The stock retains its authentic military character without the heavy sanding or thick commercial varnish commonly seen on refurbished surplus rifles. Matching military-style wear and patina across the rifle give it a very cohesive and original overall feel.
The rifle also retains its original military hardware including:
Cleaning rod
Front sight protector assembly
Sling hardware
Full-length handguard and military fittings
One of the standout features of this example is the bore condition. The bore is exceptionally bright with sharp, well-defined rifling, significantly above average for a military surplus VZ.24 rifle. The muzzle and crown also appear to remain in very good condition.
Overall, this is a highly attractive Czech VZ.24 Mauser with strong collector appeal, combining:
Desirable Czech lion crest
Excellent overall finish
Very strong bore
Original military configuration
Honest military character and patina
