Remington 788 with new Bartlein barrel - 50% of shipping covered.

Project started from a Remington 788 hunting rifle. The reputation about Remington 788 actions, should need no explanations…super impressive stiffness, deep seated barrel, lightning fast lock time..etc.etc.

Trued action, new stainless varmint contour Bartlein barrel put on, match chamber in .308 Win, 1/10 twist, 21”, match crown - and a custom muzzle brake installed. Original stock was solid and has a good pistol grip…action was bedded, barrel channel opened up and trigger work done for super crisp let off.

So; cost of original gun, removing old barrel, purchase and the installation of the New Bartlein barrel, precision machining done to action, barrel, chamber, crown, custom muzzle brake etc..bedding action, New scope, New scope base, New LEUPOLD rings, plus profit margin for all this -mostly precision work- to be done and (of course!) applicable taxes…the asking price is pretty reasonable and the work is VERY well done.

To say this rifle is accurate is an understatement. I have a 3” circular steel plate that I put out to the 200 yard mark and I hit this with monotonous regularity in its centre…now, this isn’t with match/matched ammo or even with reloaded ammo or commercial ammo, this is done with cheap bulk military surplus ammo from Austria..(Bought deliberately for when I retired)..Imagine the result, if ammo it really, really liked  was used…(See photos and two groups were shot pretty fast, last one was adjusted up a bit, but the day was WINDY!)…has pissed off no end of other shooters at the range that had more expensive rigs and ammo. (It’s consistent - very consistent…the closest thing I have had to a ‘trained’ rifle…and after all, only accurate rifles are interesting).

Scope is a new Bushnell Nitro 4-16x50, 30mm. Not super expensive perhaps, but Works just fine!! The gun comes with EVERYTHING in the photos.

I didn’t do anything to the stock, intended to pretty-it up a bit…but fate has come along and spoilt things, so as a result have reluctantly decided on selling while I can…It’s a nice solid no bullshit gun and everything works PERFECTLY and the rifling is in PRISTINE condition. Rifle is ALWAYS meticulously cleaned and maintained and every screw is torqued just so. I am a fussy owner.
