These target rifles were sold from the factory with military length wood, but with a longer 30" bbl. They have bayonet lugs so they are service rifle legal. The original factory aperture sight on these was drilled and tapped into the receiver rear bridge, and sat more forward than the upgraded sight on this rifle. Someone removed that sight and put a Canada Tool and Specialty Company Ltd (from New-Glasgow, NS) on the rifle, which is purpose made for a 1905 Ross target rifle. It uses one of the original rear sight mounting holes and the stock through-bolt to secure it, which is a more stable mount than the original target sight. This sight was considered an upgrade over the factory sight at the time. It's adjustable for windage in 3 different ways, can be locked for windage, is micrometer elevation adjustable, has interchangeable aperture disks, and sits as far back on the receiver as allowed under match rules at Bisley. The military rear sight base is there, including the mounting pin, but it looks like a military sight was never installed on it from the factory.

Most of the finish is really nice, though there are some areas of old mottling where blueing is missing in a pixilated pattern (I showed them all in photos). Likely it was surface rusted in these areas at some point long ago.

These are rare birds that don't come up often, and although I could not bring myself to do so, a military action could be dropped into the gun and be correct if that's more your interest than as a rare target variant.

Shipping cost will be paid by the buyer.  I ship Canada Post expedited. Pickup also available in Ottawa.

I would consider trade, but only for the following items (+/- $ as appropriate):

-WW1 era Ross 1910 MkIII, unrestored in military trim (i.e. no sporters or restored sporters)
-WW1 SMLE rifles (MkI and stars, IP, CON'd or MkIII or III* types), matching in nice shape with decent bores - absolutely no restored sporters.
-wire wrapped grenade firing SMLE, ideally with discharge cup.
-WW1 Gew 98 or Kar 98, matching in nice shape
-WW1 Kar 88, matching and original
-non-turked matching Gew 88 (not 88/05)
-The right long lee Enfield or Metford, if in really great matching condition
